I love the post picture with the desserts. It effectively related to me the need to always be seeking grow in the area of self-control. God has been teaching me a lot in this area. Not always easy but such a powerful weapon when mastered. Best Wishes! Leigh

Thank you for sharing that, Leigh. I am the same way. God speaks so poignantly to me about self-control when He illustrates with my food choices. There is so much to discover there. Blessings to you today, my friend!

Good post! 👍🏼 It seems self-control and reverence tie together because to the degree that we love God, is the same degree to which we will exercise self-control about the things we know please and glorify Him. I see the correlation as one of affection and relationship. The measure that you love someone is the same as how carefully you cultivate the relationship and care about the what pleases and displeases the one you walk with. There is a cautionary memo that we just won’t ever love God and neighbor enough to curb our selfishness 100% this side of heaven, but we can strive for both hoping that we will more and more be sanctified to love the world less, and love God more in the light of his glory and grace.

Amen! I love that connection you drew between self control and reverence. I sure wish I could love God perfectly as He deserves. I’m just so thankful that I will have an eternity after I am perfected to do just that!

Wonderful timing! I was just talking with our son this morning about how important it is to be self-controlled. I was encouraging him to be self-controlled and not allow his thoughts to wander, but rather to keep them on the task at hand. He asked how and I replied to ask the Lord to give him the gift of self-control and to practice it. I then told him it’s a life skill I’m still working on daily. Thank you for encouraging us to walk in this gift of the Spirit! God bless!

Wow- that is God-timing for sure! Thank you for sharing. I think you hit on something so vital. It is called “self”- control, but we cannot do it by ourselves. Like “will” power can’t be done on our will alone. We need the Lord for absolutely everything!

Chocolate is not tempting to me at all. Now, if those were caramel-delights, I would have to go to confession at some point soon! 😁

Hahaha! Well, admitting the problem is the first step 😉 We all have different vices du jour.

One time when I was highly frustrated with our impulsive son, I said to him with clipped words in a raised voice: “If you would just learn some SELF-CONTROL!!!” Ooo boy. Needless to say I had to apologize to him. God brings that incident to mind now and then, refreshing my understanding that I must teach by example if I expect my words to be heeded!
